Your Weekly Leadership and Project Updates for October 8, 2024
What's Happening
We've been on the road!
Katie Allan - Sinogap, Kyle Melting Tallow - Siksika Nation, Jerry Nash - Sinogap, and Frida
Last week we traveled through southern Alberta, with stops in Siksika Nation, Pincher Creek and Calgary!
First, we had an energizing meeting to discuss opportunities to support the leadership development of the Public Safety team at Siksika Nation. Exciting to think about how we may be able to support their leaders in ultimately fulfilling their motto - in the Blackfoot language is AISKSKATAKI, which means to watch over and to be on guard.
Katie Allan & Dr. Johanna Pagonis
Next, we stopped by the Municipal District of Pincher Creek to facilitate employee focus groups as part of their Psychological Health and Safety initiative. Some excellent feedback and ideas were shared by employees and we can't wait to deliver the final report and recommendations to the leadership team.
AHS Team Leads Cohort 2
Our last stop was in Calgary where we had the pleasure of delivering leadership training to Alberta Health Services Protective Services Team Leads, who play a critical role in supporting peace officers in healthcare facilities across the province. After facilitating Cohort 1 in Edmonton in June, the bar was set high - but we couldn't be more impressed by the engagement and openness displayed by Cohort 2
Leadership Insights
Safe Spaces vs. Brave Spaces – What’s the Difference?
Safe spaces were designed to offer protection from judgment and harm, fostering inclusivity and solidarity in workplaces. However, as dynamics evolve, it's become clear that safety alone isn't enough to tackle deeper systemic issues. Enter "brave spaces"—environments where discomfort is embraced, and open, honest conversations can lead to growth and change. These spaces encourage courageous dialogue, promoting understanding and progress.
